Laconia, NH –  Ryan Tombs, playing out of Manchester Country Club, secured his spot in the match play rounds beginning tomorrow by firing a seven-under par, 65.  Tombs finished the qualifying rounds at a total of 9-under, 135 to earn the top seed to begin match play.  The second seed goes to Jim Cilley, who finished at three-under 141 and the third seed belongs to James McKee after finished at two-under 142.
As Tombs reflected on his round, he said, “I birdied my second hole and then made four birdies in a row.  That gave me a little momentum.”  He went on to add four additional birdies to his card to solidify his spot in the Round of 64.
What was working for him?  Tombs stated, “I was hitting the ball really well and gave myself good birdie opportunities”.  Looking to the next round, he says, “I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing”.  Tombs hopes to capitalize on the momentum he has gained from the qualifying rounds and carry that through the matches.
Following the finishing groups was a playoff for the 64th spot in match play between four players—Mike Blair, Josh Chamberlain, AJ Pratt, and Andy Hunnewell.  It took eight playoff holes to determine the 64th player and after the fifth hole, daylight was fading fast.  Only Blair and Chamberlain were left after the sixth hole and ultimately, Chamberlain came out on top and grabbed the last spot in match play.
The New Hampshire Amateur Championship is a six-day event, beginning with 36-holes of stroke play qualifying on Monday and Tuesday to determine the 64 players who will be advancing to the match play rounds beginning on Wednesday.  One round of matches will be played Wednesday, two rounds of matches will be played both Thursday and Friday, and the championship concludes with a 36-hole final match on Saturday.
