Hanover, NH – While the top seeds from the Championship are moving on, many had a tough Round of 64 match in order to advance to the Round of the 32 of the New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi of Nashua.  Pat Pelletier (Carter CC), Matt Paradis (Concord CC) and Ryan Tombs (Manchester CC) will all be moving on following their victories in the opening round of the match play.

Pelletier, who took on Bill Everett (Laconia CC) in the first round of match, had a tough opponent to get through.  Everett was a part of the 5 for 4 playoff to advance on and earned the 64 seed.  Pelletier ended up defeated Everett on the 17th hole of Hanover Country Club despite the close match they had.  Pelletier will be facing Jake Hollander (The Shattuck GC) in the next round in his run at the title.

Paradis found himself in a tight spot in the Round of 64 as he was down to Tim Baines (Intervale Country Club) for a majority of the match.  Heading into the 18th hole, Paradis needed to win to advance the match to extra holes.  He was able to accomplish that and take Baines to 20 holes to decide the winner.  Paradis will take on Garrett Olivar (Canterbury Woods CC) in the Round of 32.

Ryan Tombs took on another playoff qualifier, Rob Zimmerman (Nashua CC) who gave him a run.  Zimmerman took the early lead through the first six hole and went 2up on Tombs.  Tombs responded back and won the next four holes to get to 2up and never let that lead slip.  He ended up defeating Zimmerman 3 & 2 to move on to the Round of 32.  Tombs will face John DeVito, two-time Mid-Amateur Match Play Champion, in the next round.

James Pleat (Nashua CC), a Dartmouth College alum, had a good match with Marshall Halpin (Hoodkroft CC) who ended taking Pleat all 18 holes to determine the winner.  Pleat defeated Halpin 2up, but the two went back and forth many times throughout the match.

Pleat talked about his feelings being back at his alma mater saying, “It’s definitely a collision of worlds because I’ve played in the New Hampshire Amateur and this was also something separate.  But it was great, it’s definitely good to be back, always.”

Many of New Hampshire’s top amateur golfers will be competing in the Round of 32 at Hanover Country Club, including Phil Pleat (Nashua CC), Jim Cilley (Ridgewood CC) and Danny Arvanitis (Derryfield CC), all former New Hampshire Amateur champions.  A lot of play is left to determine the 2018 New Hampshire Amateur Champion.
