Canterbury, NH –   With round one of the Four Ball Championship in the books, numerous teams had low rounds.  Leading the field is the side of Mike Martel (Nashua CC) and Cam Salo (Bretwood GC) who shot 8-under par, 64.  Martel and Salo will look to hold onto their lead heading into round two at Owl’s Nest Resort and Golf Club.
Martel carded two eagles, one on the 4th hole and the other on the 16th hole, along with two birdies.  Salo, coming off a solid final round at the Players Invitational, contributed six birdies to the round.  Aside from two bogies, the duo carded an impressive round.
Following close behind is the team of Jamie Ferullo (Rochester CC) and Nick MacDonald (Lake Sunapee CC) who are just one shot back from the lead.   Dave and Nathan Larrivee (Manchester CC) also climbed their way up the leaderboard with a 6-under, 66.  And rounding out the top four teams is the side of Bob and Travis Landry (Loudon CC) with 6-under par, 66.
From the Net Division, three teams are tied for the lead, all at a net score of 10-under par.  The team of Doug Debski and Randall Gustafson (Loudon CC), Eric Stanley (Souhegan Woods CC) and Dave Metzger (Canterbury Woods CC), and Guy Hallee (Winham CC) and Tony Hallee (Pembroke Pines CC) will battle it out in round 2 to determine the winner of the Net Division of the Four Ball.
One of the toughest holes at Canterbury Woods Country Club in the first round was the uphill, par-4 7th hole.  Playing at around 393 yards, it saw many bogeys, but a few did make it out with pars and even a birdie.
The Four Ball Championship is two-day, 36-hole best ball championship.  Teams of two take to Canterbury Woods Country Club and Owl’s Nest Resort and Golf Club to determine the top four ball team in the state.  The field is divided into a Gross and Net Divisions.
