23 More Golfers Earn Spots at Nashua CC for New Hampshire Amateur Presented by Audi Nashua

June 24th, 2020

Concord, NH – Following another successful day of qualifying rounds for the 117th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua, 23 more golfers are headed to Nashua Country Club next month for the start of the state’s premier amateur golf championship.  Two qualifiers were held at North Conway Country Club and Keene Country Club where 14 golfers advanced from North Conway and 9 golfers advanced from Keene.  Leading the way at each site were Mike Blair (Bretwood GC) with a 73 (+1) at Keene CC, which Rob Zimmerman (Nashua CC) and Ben Dougherty (North Conway CC) tied at even-par, 71 for medalist honors at North Conway CC.

Down in Keene, 9 golfers who shot 81 (+9) or better are excited to be making their way to Nashua CC in 12 days.  Mike Blair, a golfer out of Bretwood GC in Keene, grabbed the solo medalist spot by one stroke over Jeff Benson (Intervale CC).  Blair carded four birdies and five bogeys in his qualifying round to finish at one-over par, 73.  As a regular name at the top of leaderboards for senior events in the region, Blair joins fellow senior golfer, Bill Everett as a medalist for State Amateur qualifying rounds this season.

Up in North Conway, 42 golfers set out in hopes of capturing one of the 14 qualifying spots that were up for grabs.  Rob Zimmerman had his sights set on one of the spots from the beginning as the New Hampshire Amateur presented by Audi Nashua is headed to his home course.

Zimmerman got off to a strong start with three birdies in the first eight holes, but carded a double bogey on the 9th hole to make the turn at a respectable one-under par.  He went on to make two bogeys and one birdie on the back side and finished the round at even-par, 71.

Joining Zimmerman at the top of the leaderboard was Ben Dougherty, a North Conway Country Club member and junior golfer who has been competing on the NHGA Junior Tour for the past few years.  Dougherty’s round was up and down, but he ultimately ended each nine at even-par to finish with a 71.  A highlight to his round was making eagle on the par-5, 17th hole which added to the four other birdies on his card throughout the day.

Those shooting 77 (+6) or better at North Conway CC have a reserved spot in the field for the New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua, beginning on July 6th.

The next qualifier for the New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua is headed to Beaver Meadow Golf Course on June 28th, followed by the final State Amateur qualifier being held at Amherst CC on June 29th.
