CAMPTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE - Chris Wellde, a recent graduate of James Mason University and resident of Ellicott City, MD lit up Owl's Nest Golf Club on Wednesday firing a course record ten under par 62 to take the lead in the first round of the New Hampshire Open Championship.

Wellde's course record bested the previous mark of 63 posted by PGA Tour standout Matt Kuchar whose family has a home on nearby Newfound Lake.

"I was hitting it good coming in after playing in the Maine Open but today everything went right," he said after the round. "I hit just about every fairway and the ones I missed were just off. I made a couple of long bomb putts and chipped once. It was one of those days,' said Wellde of his unblemished round.

Wellde started with a birdie at the first hole and made birdies at the 4th, 6th, and 7th to go out in 32 but went off on the back nine making six birdies to come home in 30.

Owl's Nest Head pro Charley Wheeler texted Kuchar telling him his record had been broken and he needed to get back to Owl's Nest to reclaim the record. "Would love to but I'm a little busy right now," answered Kuchar as he is in Akron, Ohio where he is set to tee it up on Thursday at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.

Mike Carbone shot a 65 to take second place three shots behind Wellde.

Tied for third at -5, five shots behind Wellde were David Chung, Jimmy Lyttle, Geoffrey Sisk, Chris Fitzpatrick , Patrick Pelletier and Mike Van Sickle.

One shot behind them at -4 were Rex Riley, Jason Thresher and defending champion Jesse Larson.

Under perfect weather and course conditions, 26 players posted under par scores with the cut coming at even par.  Just five amateurs survived the day, including 2013 New Hampshire Amateur Champion Mike Martel (-1).

Former New Hampshire Amateur Champion Patrick Pelletier had a hole-in-one on the fifth hole en-route to his 67.

43 total players made the cut and will play 36-holes tomorrow for the title.
