WOLFEBORO, NEW HAMPSHIRE-Phil Pleat has done it again and he's done what's never been done before in New Hampshire amateur golf- win the New Hampshire Senior Championship for the fourth consecutive year. In the process he added to his own record total by winning his 18th New Hampshire golf championship.

Pleat shot a two under par 70 on Wednesday at Kingswood Golf Club to finish at two under- 142 for the 36 hole event nipping Derryfield Country Club's Dan Arvanitis by one shot.

Does winning ever get old for Pleat? "It doesn't get old because you just never know at my age. You cherish each one because you don't know when the last one is going to happen," he said after the round.

Some competitors don't want to know where they stand during the course of a round but Pleat does. "I was aware that Dan was playing well but I made a great par on 13. Then I birdied 15 to go two under. Then I had a 20 footer for eagle on 16 that I ran by but made a nice comebacker. So I was 3 under with two to play but three putted 17, a difficult green, to give one back but then I found out I just needed par on 18 to win and I was able to get that done.”

Arvanitis gave it his best shot shooting the low round of the day- a 3 under par- but just couldn't overcome Pleat's near flawless play. After a three birdie-one bogey front nine Arvanitis briefly took the lead with an eagle at the par 5-10th but gave the lead back by bogeying the 13th and 14th. Birdies at the 15th and 17th got him in it again but a bogey at the last hole extinguished his chances of a playoff. .

Mike Blair shot a second consecutive even par 72 to finish solo third while Jim Jankowski, Bob Adams, Craig Steckowych and Bob Mielcarz shared fourth place.

Howie Hunter of Sky Meadow Country Club won the pre-senior division (45-54) while Mielcarz took the 63-69 division and Anthony Batelle of Montcalm Golf Club won the 70-74 group.
