Concord, NH –  In the first year of the Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship being held at Beaver Meadow Golf Course, a field of 30 golfers teed off in the first round to play 18 holes of stroke play to determine flights and seeds for match play.  Ryan Kohler (Stonebridge CC) and Peter Keilty (Portsmouth CC) each shot one over par, 73.  Kohler earned the number one seed and Keilty the number two seed.
The stroke play qualifying round saw a range of scores.  Those competing in the Championship flight shot 84 and lower.  Kohler’s four birdies on the back nine helped him get into great position, including his birdie on the 18th hole.  In the first round of match play, Kohler will face Gary Jordan (Waukewan GC).  Keilty will face John Idoine (North Conway CC) after a solid round that included three birdies.
At the top of the First flight is Pat Dion (Amherst CC) who will face Derek LeClair (Nashua CC).  Leading the way in the second flight is Tyler Somers (Waukewan GC) who will be up against Nathan Langford (Windham CC) in the first round of match play.
The excitement of match play begins Monday morning, May 22nd and matches will continue Monday afternoon.
In its first year, the Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship mirrors the format of the Senior Match Play.  Competitors ages 25 and over play 18 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine their seed and flight for the match play rounds beginning Tuesday.  The top 16 players are placed into the Championship Flight with the next 8 players being placed into the First Flight.
