Hudson, NH – The final match of the 2018 Boys Junior Championship presented by Junior Golf Hub is complete and Sam Barton (Kingswood Golf Club) came out on top over Brian Adams (Breakfast Hill Golf Club) winning it 4 & 3.
Barton began the day knowing he is five years old than Adams with more experience competing in the Junior Championship.  With that in mind, he knew Adams was going to be a tough competitor as he started out in the Championship bracket as the #7 seed who had defeated the #2 seed to get to where he is.
The match began with both players making par on the first two holes of the Jungle Course at Green Meadow Golf Club.  Barton then took an early 1up lead by draining an eagle putt on the par-5 3rd hole while it took Adams three strokes to get onto the green.  The match held steady at Barton 1up until the 9th hole.  Adams was hopeful he would get one back after rolling in a lengthy birdie putt on the 5th hole, but Barton responded by making his birdie putt on top of that.
Barton has successfully played the 3rd hole on the Jungle Course, taking advantage of it during both days of match play competition there.  Thinking back on how he played it today, making eagle, Barton says, “That was big for my confidence, getting up and down from 200 yards so I think that was a big turning point.”
Adams made his first error on the 9th after he overshot the green on his approach and gave the hole to Barton after not being able to recover from a tough spot.  Right after that, Barton showed he was human by three-putting the 10th hole causing the match to go back to Barton at 1up.  Barton went on to birdie the 12th hole after Adams skulled his second shot over the green; Barton went back to 2up.
Stepping up to the 13th tee, Barton sent his tee shot to the left side of the fairway, while Adams faltered and pumped his drive into the hazard on the right.  He took the penalty stroke and struggled his way to the green, eventually conceding the hole to Barton.  Heading to 14, Barton was 3up.  The errors were adding up for Adams as he piled on another bogey on the 14th hole, giving Barton a 4up lead with only four holes left to play.  The two halved the 15th hole with pars for Barton to win the match 4 & 3.
Barton talks about his goal heading into the match saying, “My goal going into today was to get up on him early and make a lot of pars, hopefully not give him anything.  I did that pretty well; I won one of the first few holes and never really looked back.”
Having a strong summer, Barton has built upon the success he found in the New Hampshire Amateur Championship in July.  He advanced to the Round 16, losing to the 2017 Junior Champion, Tommy Ethier.  Barton has landed himself a spot on the New Hampshire team for the New England Junior Championship which begins next week.  Brian Adams will also be joining him on that team that is headed to Longmeadow CC (MA) to compete against the top junior golfers in New England.
