Final Qualifier Complete: 24 Golfers Round Out Field for New Hampshire Amateur Presented by Audi Nashua

June 29th, 2020

Concord, NH – Qualifying is now complete for the 117th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua, as 24 golfers advance on to Nashua Country Club from the Amherst Country Club qualifier.  Led by Cameron Sheedy (Windham CC) at even-par, 72, golfers who shot 80 (+8) or better are moving forward.

Though there were no under-par rounds on the day, Sheedy displayed consistency and strength in his game as he navigated Amherst CC to an even-par score.  On the front nine, he made one birdie, one bogey and seven pars to turn at even-par.  While his back nine included six more pars, it looked like he was going to finish his round over par until the 18th hole where he finished his round with an eagle to hang on to the even-par number.  Sheedy earns solo-medalist honors for the final qualifier before the State Amateur.

Paired with Sheedy was Colin McCaigue (Amherst CC), a junior golfer who represented New Hampshire as part of the team that competed in the New England Junior Invitational last season.  McCaigue’s strong front nine include four birdies and just two bogeys, making the turn at two-under, the lowest front nine of the field.  Unfortunately, he didn’t card any birdies on the back side and found himself making three bogeys to finish the day at one-over par, 73.

Eric McCoy, Nashua Country Club member, also finished one shot back of Sheedy at one-over par, 73.  McCoy and McCaigue had opposite nines from eachother as McCoy made two bogeys on the front side to turn at two-over par, but went on to make four birdies on the back nine at Amherst to keep himself to one-over par.  He’s looking forward to competing in the State Amateur, being held at his home golf course.

At the end of the day, the golfers who shot 80 (+8) entered a playoff for the final qualifying spots--seven golfers for four spots.  It took just one hole to determine those who would be advancing on as Kevin Friel made birdie while Andrew York, Taylor Scott and Jack Meehan made par to grab the final qualifying spots.

The 117th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua begins on Monday, July 6th at Nashua Country Club.  36 holes of stroke play qualifying will happen the first two days of the championship to determine the 64 golfers that will move on to the match play rounds that begin on Wednesday, July 8th.
