Nims and Bordeau Comes From Behind to Win Women's Team in Playoff

July 1st, 2022

Loudon, NH – They started out the final round six strokes back of the leaders, but Dale Nims and Kat Bordeau were able to card a 74 (+2) in the final round to tie for the lead and win the Women’s Team Championship in a one-hole playoff.  Nims and Bordeau essentially swapped rounds with June Ferland and Joan Cyr to tie at ten-over total for the 36-hole championship held at Loudon Country Club.
June Ferland and Joan Cyr entered the final round with a three-stroke lead over the remainder of the field, with two teams in particular chasing them down.  Nims and Bordeau were six shots back and in need of a solid round and bogeys from the leaders for them to have a chance.  Fortunately for the winners, Ferland and Cyr got off to a rocky start, digging themselves a hole as they got to five-over par on the day after just three holes.  They did make two birdies with another bogey on the front nine to turn at four-over par and for the top three teams, four-over par was the name of the game.
At the turn, Cyr and Ferland still had a three-stroke lead, but the difference maker was the back nine.  Cyr and Ferland made another five bogeys and just one birdie to finish up the day with an 80 (+8), which is the round Nims and Bordeau had the previous day.
Nims and Bordeu also had a little trouble with the first couple holes, making double bogey on the par-5, 3rd hole, but recovered from there with a birdie.
“I think we kept our heads on our shoulders and made a few birdies that make up for the double bogey”, commented Nims after the round.  “We were shocked that we flip flopped with the twins [Ferland and Cyr]”, continued Nims.
They ended up with a two-over par front nine and while it wasn’t enough to catch Ferland and Cyr just yet, they were zeroing in on them, along with the other two teams near the top of the leaderboard.  On the back nine, Nims and Bordeau played a solid consistent game of golf.  They went back and forth, proving to be a good pairing for eachother, and Nims ultimately rolled in a birdie putt on 18 to put them at ten-over par for the tournament, with an impressive even-par back nine.  When Ferland and Cyr finished up at the same 36-hole total, they entered into a playoff.
“I’m always nervous”, stated Bordeau about how they felt going into the playoff hole.  The nerves were especially high when it’s not exactly where you expected to finish up.
The two teams took to the first hole at Loudon CC for the playoff.  Both teams had their tough spots out there in the playoff, but Nims ultimately rolled in a putt that forced the other team to make their putt.  They just missed and Nims and Bordeau were crowned this year’s Women’s Team champions.
“We didn’t expect to win, and we just wanted to play well today”, stated Bordeau.  “We just wanted to have some fun and we did.”
Nims and Bordeau walked away with trophies in their hands and smiles on their faces as they captured their first Women’s Team Championship victory.
The NHGA would like to thank the entire staff at Loudon Country Club for hosting this championship event.  The course was in great shape and provided a true test of golf for the competitors this week.
