Pepin Goes Low to Lead Field in State Amateur Qualifier at Pease

May 30th, 2019

Portsmouth, NH – Twenty-two golfers are moving on to the New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua from the State Amateur Qualifier at Pease Golf Course.  Jack Pepin (Atkinson Resort & CC) came out firing as he earned medalist honors with a 66 (-5).
Pepin, a 15-year-old from Plaistow, New Hampshire, brought his best game and put up a low number at Pease Golf Course in the State Amateur Qualifier as he went birdie-birdie-birdie to start his round.  He added another birdie to his round on the 7th hole to make the turn at an impressive four-under par.  He continued his great golf with another birdie on the 11th hole to get to five-under.  In even more impressive fashion, Pepin went bogey-free the entire round to finish at five-under, 66.  His putting helped him to that number as he had just 25 putts throughout the round.
The only other golfer to return an under-par round was Nick Hampoian (The Golf Club of New England).  Although Hampoian had one bogey on his card in the round, he had four birdies including ones on the opening and closing holes of the course.  He finished his round with a 68, three-under par.  Hampoian recently finished up his freshman year at the University of Connecticut where is a member of the Men’s Golf Team.
A few other familiar names advancing to the championship proper are Michael Mahan (Rochester CC) with a 73 (+2), Justin Grondahl (The Golf Club of New England) with a 74 (+3), and former NHGA Junior Tour member, Ryan Rothdiener (Crotched Mountain GC) with a 77 (+6).
Other highlights from the day include a hole-in-one from Paul Cino (Windham CC) on the 16th hole, playing at 165 yards; Cino finished up his round with an 81, just two shots off the cutline.  Twenty-two golfers keeping it to 79 or better will be heading to Portsmouth Country Club in just over a month to compete in the New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua.
