The Pete's Take the Lead, Desjardins-Beaulieu Fire -6 in Opening Round of Senior Four Ball

September 4th, 2019

North Conway, NH –  In the first round of the New Hampshire Senior Four Ball Championship, at the scenic North Conway Country Club, Pete Desjardins and Pete Beaulieu teamed up to shoot 65 (-6) to take the lead by one stroke.  With 18 holes still to play, the duo is followed closed by two teams at -5, Craig Steckowych/Scott Peters and Jim Jankowski/Chris McLaughlin.
Desjardins and Beaulieu began the round on a rough note, each with a bogey on the first hole of the course.  They were able to turn it around with three birdies throughout the front nine to turn at two-under par, matching the 9-hole score of two teams right behind them on the leaderboard.
They turned on the jets on the back nine with four birdies and no bogeys and edged out the other two teams that finished at five-under.  After they finished their round, Desjardins mentioned they rolled in a lot of putts on their way to that 65.  They will look to hang onto their lead in the final round with some strong teams on their tails.
Steckowych and Peters were the first in for the day, setting the bar high at five-under par.  Unlike the Pete’s, they started the round with a birdie and ended up with only one bogey on their card. They find themselves in the final group for the second round, chasing down the leaders.
Peters comments after the round saying, “We had one bogey and that was a sloppy one.  We had plenty of chances, I thought we were a good team.”
Steckowych follows that up stating, “Ultimately, I think we ended up pretty close to where we should have, atleast that’s how we felt.”  Steckowych won this championship last year with partner Danny Arvanitis and looks to win it again this year; they will need another strong round to get it done.
Also in at five-under par was the duo of Jim Jankowski and Chris McLaughlin.  The two went back and forth for much of the round, with two-under par on the front and three-under par on the back for a 66 (-5).  They too, will chase down the Pete’s on their way to this NHGA title.
The New Hampshire Senior Four Ball Championship is a 36-hole four-ball competition open to male golfers age 55 years and older.  Being held at North Conway Country Club this year, it is in its second year.  NCCC is playing at around 6,200 yards for this competition.
