Womens Match Play Championship added to 2019 NHGA Schedule

December 12th, 2018

Concord, NH- The New Hampshire Golf Association (NHGA) is excited to announce the addition of the Women’s Match Play Championship to the 2019 tournament schedule.

The inaugural three-day event will be hosted by Abenaqui Country Club in Rye from Monday, May 20th through Wednesday, May 22nd.  The championship will consist of an 18-hole stroke play qualifier, with two days of match play to follow. Players will be flighted based on their score in the qualifying round, and all players will be guaranteed at least one match. The event will be open to women of all ages who have an active New Hampshire GHIN handicap. Prizes will be given out in each flight as well.

NHGA Executive Director, Matt Schmidt had this to say about the new addition to the schedule: “The NHGA is thrilled to add another event to our 2019 schedule in the form of the Women’s Match Play Championship. We’ve made a concerted effort to expand playing opportunities for all golfers and this event will do just that. The format will allow players of all ability to compete and test their game in a match play format against players of similar skill levels. We especially want to thank Abenaqui CC for hosting the inaugural event and we’re looking forward to a fantastic championship.”

The Women’s Match Play Championship will be the third women-only championship to be added to the NHGA tournament schedule. The Women’s Team Championship and the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship both made their debut during the 2018 tournament season.

Women looking to play in NHGA events are not restricted to these three championships. The Mixed Club Team Championship will return next year and is open to both men and women who are members of the same club. The Parent-Child and all NHGA Tournament Series events are open to players of any gender.

The full 2019 tournament schedule will be released in early January with registration opening at that time. For all questions, please contact the NHGA office at 603-219-0371 or email Director of Tournament Operations, Kinsey Hoffman at
