Young Guns Huang & Zimmerman Lead Four Ball Championship

July 16th, 2020

Keene, NH – As the opening round of the New Hampshire Four Ball Championship comes to a close, the young team of Will Huang and Bryce Zimmerman currently lead the field by one stroke after firing 63 (-9).  Close behind the two at 64 (-8) are the team of Jim Cilley and Mike Mahan who have experience on their side as they won this event back in 2010 and have been playing together since 2009.

The Huang/Zimmerman team went out strong with Zimmerman contributing two back-to-back birdies to start the day.  The two went back and forth for much of the round, evenly contributing to their nine-under par round of 63.  Huang made four of the birdies, while Zimmerman had five and they were able to stay away from any bogeys.

The young pair of golfers are followed close behind by the team of Jim Cilley and Mike Mahan who won the event ten years ago.  Cilley and Mahan went out and fired eight-under par, 64 to take an early lead on the field.

“I think it was a tale of two nines for Jim and I,” says Mahan after the round.  “I think that I had a lot of great opportunities on the front nine.  I made some good putts and made some good swings and then I ran into some challenges on the back nine and Jim got hot.”

Similar to Zimmerman, Mahan started the round strong with two-straight birdies to start of the day.  He added another birdie to the card on the 9th hole and from there, Cilley seemed to have taken over making birdies on 13, 14, 15, and 18 to go four-under over a six-hole stretch.

Cilley comments, “It was a good team effort today.  We’ve been saying it for a couple weeks leading into this that we need to have one of those team efforts.”

That is exactly what they did.  At no point did they need to take a bogey as the other was able to make par to salvage the hole.

Mahan states, “If we play like we did today, I feel very good that we’ll have a chance.”  They will look to keep the Huang/Zimmerman team in their sights in the final round as they look to capture their second New Hampshire Four Ball Championship title.

The final round of the Four Ball Championship will get underway at 8:30AM on Friday, July 17th.
