Thornton, NH –  After a warm day with less wind than normal, many players, including amateurs, found themselves in the red numbers after round one of the New Hampshire Open at Owl’s Nest Resort & Golf Club.  Leading the way with 67’s are Marc Hurtubise, Cahmbly, Quebec; Brian Hopkins, Lyndoville, VT; Taylor Page, Wilmington, VT; and Matt Mankin, Roanoke, VA.
Hurtubise played a solid, consistent round and managed to keep the bogeys off his card.  He scored two birdies on the front and went on to make three more birdies on the back nine to bring him to 5-under par.  Hopkins took a similar route and avoided any bogeys.  It seemed that the two birdies on the first two holes of his round propelled him to his 5-under, 67.  Taylor Page, carded two eagles on the back nine, making the par 5’s out there seem easy.  And Matt Mankin made the turn at 4-under par and kept it steady for the remainder with only one bogey.
The low amateurs after round one are Josh Chamberlain, New Boston, NH, who recorded a 4-under, 68, putting himself just one stroke off the lead.  Chamberlain finished out his round with birdies on both 17 and 18, giving him momentum going into the next round.  Matt Paradis, Hooksett, NH, continues his streak of impressive golf this summer by shooting 2-under, 70.  Brett Krekorian, Andover, MA, also shot 70 after turning nine at even-par and finishing at 2-under.  And Kip Webber, Boxborough, MA, rounds out the low amateurs with the 2-under par 70.  Webber eagled the tough 4th hole, which only one other player did in the day.
Round two will begin at 7:30AM on Thursday, July 28th
The New Hampshire Open is a three-day, individual stroke play event.  All players play 18 holes each of the first two days.  Following round two, the field is cut to the low 40 plus ties who then play 18 holes in round three to conclude the tournament.
