Bretton Woods, NH – Thirty-two players got cut down to eight today on the fourth day of the 112th New Hampshire Amateur Championship at the Mount Washington Golf Club. The final eight players are Connor Greenleaf, Joe Leavitt, Nick Pandelena, Chelso Barrett, Jamie Ferullo, Phin Choukas, Bob Mielcarz, and Dylan Cowette.

Nine-time Champion Bob Mielcarz (Concord CC) took down Jim Cilley (Lochmere Golf & CC) in the morning and then disposed of 4th seed Cameron Salo (Bretwood GC) in the afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals.

The 65 year old is the oldest player left in the field by forty years. When asked how he felt after winning three matches in two days Mielcarz responded “Pinch me.” He will play twenty-five year old Jamie Ferullo (Rochester CC) tomorrow at 8:10 am.

Co-Medalist Connor Greenleaf (Windham CC) was two holes up with two to play before losing the 17th hole and heading to eighteen needing to halve the hole to win the match. He calmly two-putted to halve the hole and advance to the quarterfinals. Greenleaf, 19, will play fifteen-year-old Phin Choukas tomorrow morning.

On having an opponent four years his junior: “I’ve been in that situation before, playing the older guy. When you’re playing well, you’re playing well; it doesn’t really matter your age.”

Reigning champion Joe Leavitt (Atkinson Resort & CC) won both of his matches comfortably today to advance to the quarterfinals for the 4th straight year. He will play 3-time NHGA Champion Chelso Barrett tomorrow in a battle of two of the top golfers in the state.

Cowette (Manchester CC) becomes the first player in over five years to advance to the quarterfinals after surviving the grand march on Tuesday evening.
