Concord, NH –  The New Hampshire Golf Association (NHGA) is eager to announce that Hanover Country Club (HCC) has been named the host of the 2018 New Hampshire Amateur Championship sponsored by Audi of Nashua.  The championship will be held July 8-13, 2018, beginning Sunday and concluding with the 36-hole final match on Friday.
With recent storm damage preventing North Conway Country Club from hosting the 115th State Amateur Championship, the NHGA was left to find a new site in a short period of time.  Hanover Country Club stepped up to fill the void and the NHGA is thrilled to be bringing the premier amateur championship back to Hanover Country Club for the first time since 1986.
Hanover Country Club Head Golf Professional, Alex Kirk, expressed his excitement saying, "Hanover Country Club and my staff are honored and privileged to be hosting an event as prestigious as the New Hampshire State Am.  Hanover’s championship layout is a great test of golf and we look forward to showcasing HCC to the best players in the state."
NHGA Executive Director, Matt Schmidt describes his relief and enthusiasm to be working with Hanover stating, “The storm damage at North Conway CC really created a unique situation for us. Where we usually identify State Amateur host sites years in advance, we were left trying to find a site just eight months before the start of the Championship.  We cast a very wide net in looking for a replacement venue and I want to thank all of the courses that expressed an interest in hosting.
“I was able to speak with Alex who expressed a strong interest in having Hanover host the event and after that initial conversation it was really just a matter of working out the details. We’re extremely appreciative of Hanover’s willingness to host the event and we know that it will be a great week at one of our oldest member clubs”, continues Schmidt.
Hanover Country Club sits on the campus of Dartmouth College and plays close to 6,500 yards.  When the course opened in 1899 it was just 9 holes; it expanded to 18 holes in 1922.  It’s most recent renovation happened in 2000 when the college expanded the golf course, adding four new holes along with new tees and greens to add distance and make the course more challenging.  The course now appeals to golfers of all ability levels.
HCC has hosted numerous NHGA championships, dating back to 1927 when it first hosted the New Hampshire Amateur Championship.  Since then HCC has hosted three more State Amateurs, one Mid-Amateur, one Junior and two New Hampshire Open Championships.  It also hosted the Tri-State tournament in 1954 which brings together teams from New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
The New Hampshire Amateur Championship sponsored by Audi of Nashua is a six-day event beginning with 36 holes of stroke play to determine the 64 players that advance on to match play.  Each round and each day gets closer to crowning the champion as players are eliminated.  The tournament concludes with a 36-hole final match.  The NHGA is thrilled to be bringing this prestigious event back to Hanover Country as it looks to crown the 115th New Hampshire Amateur Champion.
