Sweet 16 is Underway

July 17th, 2014

GOFFSTOWN, NEW HAMPSHIRE - The field for the 111th New Hampshire Amateur is down to the sweet sixteen after the Thursday morning round at Stonebridge Country Club.

The big upset of the day was the #32 seed Jamie Ferullo taking out the #1 seed, Ryan Kohler in 19 holes leaving #2 Matt Paradis as the highest remaining seed after he beat Ryan Toombs 6 and 5.

For the first time in the history of the event there was a father versus son match as Bob Landry took on his son Ian and youth was not served with Bob winning 4 and 3.

The family theme continued with father and son Phil and James Pleat from Nashua Country Club both losing their matches with Phil falling to Joe Leavitt in 19 holes and James going down to former champion Jim Cilley 2 and 1.

It was a better morning for the Killam brothers of Newport Country Club as they both won their matches when Michael Killam defeated Michael Mahan in 19 holes and Mathew Killam took down the #6 seed Chris Houston 1 up.

Defending champion Michael Martel is still alive after winning his match against Bo Harris 5 and 4 and the #3 seed Damon Salo dropped veteran Daniel Arvanitis 2 and 1.

After a short lunch break the 16 remaining will tee up to determine the field of eight for Friday morning.
