Kohler Claims Stroke Play Lead with Four Under Par Second Round
Canterbury, NH – The venue changed, along with the leader following the second round of the Stroke Play Championship. The field headed to Canterbury Woods Country Club for Round 2 of the competition with Pat Pelletier (Hanover CC Online) in the lead after the first round at Sky Meadow Country Club. With a four-under par round, Ryan Kohler (Hooper GC) took over the lead, sitting at even-par for the championship with a one-shot cushion heading to the final round at Windham Country Club.
As a past champion of this tournament, Ryan Kohler has made it clear that he feels comfortable with the stroke play format. He made three birdies on the front nine with zero bogeys to make the turn at three-under par. From there, he birdied the 10th and 18th holes at Canterbury Woods and added just one bogey to his card, finishing up the day at four-under par.
With a near-perfect round of golf, Kohler now finds himself in the lead as round-one leader, Pat Pelletier let his lead slip a little as he carded a six-over par round. Pelletier is now four shots back of Kohler and will look to return to red numbers in the final round. Kohler heads to Windham Country Club with a one stroke lead and plenty of strong competitors following right behind him.
Among those competitors looking to catch Kohler are Rick Moreau (Sky Meadow CC) who has strung together two great rounds so far in the championship. Beginning the tournament at his home club had some benefits for him as he turned in a one-over par, 73 to kick things off strong. His even-par round at Canterbury Woods kept him in position, now just one shot back of the leader. One more solid round for Moreau could pay off in the final round.
Will McLaughlin (Concord CC) also sits just one shot back of Kohler with 18 holes left to play. McLaughlin went even-par in the opening round and carded one-over par in his second round to sit in a good spot heading to the third round. Despite a two-over par front nine at Canterbury Woods, McLaughlin turned it around with two birdies on the back nine and just one bogey to finish happily at one-over par.
Following the second round, the field was cut to the low 40 golfers plus ties to advance to the final round at Windham Country Club. 41 golfers managing 21-over par or better are making their way to the final round, all looking to chase down Ryan Kohler for the title.
