Eddins Leads Field at Pease State Amateur Qualifier, 25 More Punch Tickets to Abenaqui

Portsmouth, NH – It was a perfect blue-sky day as 75 golfers teed it up at Pease Golf Course in an attempt at qualifying for the New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Smuttynose.  Kurt Eddins (Cochecho CC) led the field as he made five birdies with just one bogey throughout the day to earn medalist honors with a 67 (-4).  Those shooting 76 (+5) or better, the lowest cut line so far this season, are moving on to Abenaqui in just a couple weeks.

Eddins started out strong with a birdie on the opening hole at Pease and from there played steady golf.  His lone bogey on the day came on the par-4, 4th hole but he made another birdie on the front nine to make up for it.  Despite his foot slipping on his tee shot on the 9th hole causing his ball to end up on the 18th green, he recovered well for a par, heading to the back nine at one-under par.

His back nine was even better with birdies on 10, 15 and 17.  He had a blemish-free back nine to card the low round of the day and comfortably sit at the top of the leaderboard knowing he had a spot secured to Abenaqui.

Fresh off his Seacoast Amateur victory, Derek Dinwoodie (Farmington CC) also recorded an under-par round, coming in at 69 (-2).  Despite opening up his round with a bogey, he managed two birdies on the front paired with two bogeys to turn at even-par.  Similar to Eddins, Dinwoodie made three birdies on the back nine, but just one bogey kept his back nine to two-under par, finishing up with a 69.

Also in the red with his score was Evan Rollins (Laconia CC) who carded a one-under par, 70.  Rollins’s front nine was very consistent, just one bogey and one birdie on the card, turning at even-par alongside Dinwoodie.  His back nine was more up and down, but fortunately for Rollins, it was more up as he carded three birdies and two bogeys to finish up with an under-par round to secure a place at Abenaqui.

The final cut was at 76 (+5) with four players playing off for the final three qualifying spots.  Those advancing to the championship were Ryan Scollins, Jeffrey Sovis, and Jeffrey Barnes.
