Pettingill's 72 Holds Up as Low Qualifier at Concord; Final State Amateur Field Now Set

Concord, NH – As the fog rolled out of Concord Country Club, the final qualifying field for the 120th New Hampshire Amateur Championship stepped up to the tee in the hopes of being one of the 11 golfers earning a spot at Manchester Country Club in just 10 days.  Zachery Pettingill (The Golf Club of New England) found himself with the low score for the day with a 72 on the par-70 golf course at Concord Country Club.  With the highest cut line in relation to par out of the seven qualifiers, those shooting 77 (+7) or better are moving on to the New Hampshire Amateur Championship.

With a four-over par front nine, Pettingill may have been a little disappointed in his performance.  Through seven holes of play, he was just one over par, but the 8th hole at Concord gave him some trouble as he carded a double bogey and followed it up with a bogey on the 9th hole to sit a few shots back of the lead after nine holes.  Despite those challenges, he was able to turn things around.

Pettingill’s back nine was a different story.  He made his first birdie of the day on the long par-5, 12th hole that gave other golfers some trouble as it can be quite narrow and tough to hit the fairway.  Although he did bogey the 13th hole, he birdied 14 and took advantage of the other par-5 on the back nine, the 17th hole for another birdie.  Those three birdies projected him up the leaderboard as he went two-under par on his back nine to finish up with a 72 (+2).

Sitting right behind Pettingill on the leaderboard is Dave Larrivee, a Manchester Country Club member who was hoping to qualify and compete in the New Hampshire Amateur on his home turf.  Larrivee’s day did not get off to the start he hoped for, especially after hitting his tee shot into the left bunker on the first hole.  He bogeyed the first hole and eventually sat at five-over par after eight holes.

Starting on the 9th hole, Larrivee rolled in a birdie putt, giving himself confidence heading the back nine.  He managed birdies on 10 and 14 but made another bogey on the 12th hole.  In his last 10 holes of the day, though, Larrivee was two-under par, but the first eight holes kept his score to a respectable 73 (+3), but good enough to earn him one of the 11 spots heading to Manchester.

Fellow Manchester Country Club golfer, Elliot Wallace is also going to be competing in the New Hampshire Amateur at his home course with a qualifying score of 75 (+5).  Wallace was leading the qualifying field after nine holes as he made one bogey and one birdie to turn at even par.  The back nine is what gave him the most trouble, carding two double bogeys, on the 10th and 18th holes at Concord.  He can hold his head high as he still earned his way into the 120th field of the New Hampshire Amateur.

As the Concord Country Club State Amateur Qualifier wraps up, the 156-player field of the 120th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Wedü with support from Irving Energy is now set.  The final 11 golfers have been determined and are set to make their mark at Manchester Country Club.
