26 More Granite State Golfers Headed to New Hampshire Amateur Presented by Audi Nashua

June 28th, 2020

Concord, NH – With the fifth qualifying round for the 117th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua complete, 26 more golfers have solidified their spot in the 156-player field headed to Nashua Country Club beginning July 6th.  Travis Banga (Canterbury Woods CC) and Ryan Anderson (Laconia CC) led the field at Beaver Meadow Golf Course, each finishing at two-under par, 70.

Travis Banga, the New England College Men’s Golf coach, is a familiar face among championship golf in the Granite State, having competed in the New Hampshire Amateur for the past several years.  In his qualifying round, he went out and made one birdie and one bogey on the front nine, making the turn at even par.  On the back side is where he got going with birdies, making birdie on 10, 12 and 18 to finish his round at two-under par to lead the field.

Alongside Banga is Ryan Anderson from Laconia Country.  Last year, Anderson qualified and competed in the Massachusetts Amateur Championship held at The Country Club.  This year, Anderson brings his game to New Hampshire where he earned his spot in the field at Nashua Country Club.  With two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, Anderson also made the turn at even par.  His bogey-free back nine with two birdies brought him to two-under where he shared the lead and medalist honors with Banga.

Banga and Anderson were among the five under-par rounds of the day.  Evan DesJardins (Atkinson Resort & CC), AJ Correia (Laconia CC) and James McKee (Windham CC) all finished at one-under par, 71.  McKee, the 2014 and 2016 New Hampshire Boys Junior Champion and 2017 Players Invitational Champion, is back competing in New Hampshire again taking time off as he headed to West Point where he now plays on the Men’s Golf Team.

McKee got off to the strongest front nine of anyone in the field, making five birdies in the first seven holes.  He did make a couple mistakes which resulted in two bogeys, but he made the turn at three-under par.  Heading to the back side he didn’t have as much success, carding three bogeys in the closing four holes of the golf course.

Following the round, McKee stated “I know the back nine here can get a little tight and a little tough, so I just started to take it one shot at a time and try to sneak my way around there.  But I salvaged a 71 to finish the day.”

Having earned his spot in the field for the 117th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua, McKee is excited to be competing alongside familiar faces.  He said, “I’m pretty happy playing all these events and seeing everyone I know.  It’s always a good time teeing it up with everyone that I grew up playing golf with.”

From the Beaver Meadow qualifier, a total of 26 golfers who shot 79 (+7) or better are headed to Nashua Country Club in about a week for the start of the 117th New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Audi Nashua.

The final qualifier is taking place at Amherst Country Club on Monday, June 28th.
