Inglis-Reid & Hamilton Grab Lead at NHGA Women's Team Championship

July 16th, 2020

Keene, NH – Now in its third year, the opening round of the NHGA Women’s Team Championship is now complete with the team of Mindy Inglis-Reid and Beth Hamilton leading the way as the only under-par team of the day, finishing at two-under, 70.  Close behind, finishing at even-par, 72 is the team of Paige Macleay and Beth Gutteridge.

Inglis-Reid and Hamilton started off their round steady, making three-straight pars.  Despite a bogey for both players on the 4th hole, they recovered well as Inglis-Reid went on to make birdie on the 5th hole.  The two made the turn at even-par to sit in a comfortable position as they head to the back nine.  Inglis-Reid began making birdies, starting with the 10th hole and added two more on the 15th and 16th holes at Keene Country Club.

“I think it was the Mindy Inglis-Reid show today”, comments Hamilton.  “I think I helped a couple times as more of a safety device to let Mindy do what she does best.”

Throughout the round, it was those times where Hamilton was in for par that really let Inglis-Reid go for it and it paid off.  They finished their round at two-under par, 70, with a two-shot lead heading to the final round of the competition.

The two will look to capture their first NHGA Women’s Team Championship title which was previously held by the team of Betsy Knights and Amy Peters.  Inglis-Reid states, “I think if we do the same thing that we did today, that will be good.”

Gutteridge and Macleay went back forth well as a team in the first round, finishing their day at a respectable even-par, 72.  Gutteridge contributed two birdies on the day, while Macleay added one of her own.  Despite their three bogeys on the back nine of the course, they were able to come out of it just two shots behind the leaders.

On the net side of the competition, two teams are tied for the lead at 64 (-8).  The team of Amy Bodwell and Ruth MacMurray from Keene Country Club and the team of Mary Jane Cormier and Melissa Harman will look to keep their spots at the top of the leaderboard on the net side.

The final round of the NHGA Women’s Team Championship will begin at 8AM on Friday, July 17th.
