Strong Finish for Steckowych-Peters Team Secures Them Senior Four Ball Title

September 5th, 2019

North Conway, NH –  In an exciting final round finish, Craig Steckowych and Scott Peters captured the New Hampshire Senior Four Ball Championship title.  The duo went back and forth much of the round to finish at eight-under par for the 36-hole tournament, with three-under par in the final round.  They edged out the team of Bill Everett and Andy Hunnewell, who worked their way up the leaderboard throughout the final round to make Steckowych and Peters work hard for their win.

Steckowych and Peters got off to a slower start and even carded a bogey on the 4th hole to drop back behind multiple teams, including Everett and Hunnewell who already had two birdies on their card as they reached the 5th hole.  Following their bogey, they found their stride, and each made a birdie before closing out the front nine.

Their back nine was very steady with each contributing to their team total in one way or another.  With four holes to play, both the Steckowych/Peters team and Everett/Hunnewell team were tied at seven-under, meaning one team needed to make a move to capture the win without extra holes.  Steckowych came up big by draining a lengthy putt on the 16th hole to pull ahead, with Everett and Hunnewell unable to answer.  They closed out their round with a par and the win.

Thinking back to those final few holes, Steckowych commented saying, “We knew we were tied with about four holes to play.  14 played a little bit difficult because of the back pin and wind in your face.  We both had very long birdie putts, but Scott made a very nice 3 or 4-footer to save our par.  That kept us where we needed to be.”

“We had birdie opportunities coming in and we took advantage one on 16 and that was the difference”, continues Steckowych.

These two are good friends who have played plenty of golf together over the years.  Peters feels great about the win and says, “The best thing I did was say ‘yes’ when Steck called to ask if I wanted to play.  He’s a great partner and great friend, and we had a great couple of days.”

This is Peters’ first NHGA victory and will proudly display his trophy along his wife’s two NHGA trophies, one coming from this year at the NHGA Women’s Team Championship.  This is Steckowych’s second win of the season and second win in this particular championship, winning it last year with partner Danny Arvanitis.

The New Hampshire Senior Four Ball Championship is a 36-hole four-ball competition open to male golfers age 55 years and older.  Being held at North Conway Country Club this year, it is in its second year.  The NHGA would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at North Conway CC for their hospitality during this event!
